Postdoc in hydrogeophysics, hydrology and numerical modelling
The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 37 000 students and 6 000 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future. The Department of Earth Science has 70 employees and 325 students. The department educates geographers and geologists. Our research focus is in geosphere and climate. We have graduate and master programs in the earch sciences and geography, as well as PhD programs in several geoscientific orientations. We have a good infrastructure, IT facilities, laboratories and instruments in areas for mineralogy, geochemistry, geophysics, dendrochronology and isotope analysis.
The postdoc will plan and carry out geophysical measurements in the laboratory and in the field, focusing on NMR methods. The results of these measurements will be used to perform simulations such as flow and transport process in the groundwater in the coastal areas. The person we are looking for will work with modeling of water and water flows in forest areas and will support other modeling tasks at the department, including parallelization of models, model integration, development of fast solvers on the departments computing cluster.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. To qualify as postdoc applicants must have completed a PhD in a subject area relevant for the position or must hold a foreign degree corresponding to a PhD in a subject area relevant for the position. The successful applicant should have significant and documented (i.e. by thesis work, university transcripts, successfully completed courses, peer reviewed publications, conference participation, grants obtained, and outreach activities) experience in the following fields: 1) Physics and Material sciences, 2) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, 3) Numerical Modelling of Flow and Transport), 4) Geophysical Measurements in the Laboratory and Field. The research requires excellent IT skills in general (Windows, Unix) and programming in particular (e.g. Fortran, MATLAB). Publications in international peer review journals and successful research grant applications are considered valuable. Good proficiency is mandatory in spoken and written English and Swedish.
