Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology
We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to the development of technology, methods, systems and logistics at biofuel terminals and the industry's fuel yards. The position is a unique opportunity where you will work with industry partners and in research teams with researchers from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and others. The subject area for the two-year postdoctoral position is Forest Technology with a focus on industrial raw material supply of forest fuels for conversion to heat and electricity. The project aims, among other things, to analyze the effect of implementing new methods, technologies and systems in fuel production and in handling, storage and transport of forest fuels at terminals and industry yards.
About the position
A postdoctoral position at the department aims to give the applicant an opportunity to consolidate and develop primarily their scientific skills. The main task of the position is to conduct research within the competence area of Forest Technology with a focus on industrial raw material supply of forest fuels. The focus of the work is on technology, methods, systems and logistics at biofuel terminals and the industry's fuel yards. You will work in a small team of researchers where you will take responsibility for planning and implementing field studies, data management, analysis and synthesis as well as for producing scientific papers and project reports. You will work closely with industry partners, primarily in planning and implementing field studies. The position also includes participation in, and development of, both national and international research networks.

Your profile
The position is intended for a junior researcher and we are primarily looking for people who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years ago. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust in trade unions or other similar circumstances. You have a doctoral degree in a relevant subject such as forestry or agricultural science with a focus on industrial raw material supply, bio-based energy systems, or similar competencies. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is a requirement. Knowledge of the Swedish language is an merit.

Documented knowledge and experience of the bio-based industry's raw material supply, biofuel technology and handling, sensor-based data collection and analysis, systems analysis and logistics are particularly meritorious. Special emphasis will also be placed on scientific proficiency in the subject area. Great importance is placed on characteristics such as analytical and problem-solving ability, motivation, communicative ability via speech and writing in English and the ability to work independently. The candidate is first assessed based on how well the eligibility qualifications for the position are met. In this recruitment, the department will, in addition to documented qualifications, also consider those who, after an overall assessment, are deemed to have the best conditions to carry out and develop current work tasks, to work to utilize the university's research and to contribute to a positive development of the operations.

About us
The Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology (SBT) forms part of the Faculty of Forest Sciences, has about 50 employees and is located in both Umeå and Uppsala. The department carries out high quality research and under- and postgraduate education on a high international level and collaborates with society and industry to develop a bio-based economy where forest biomaterials are an important resource. The major focus in Umeå lies on value chains in the bio-based industry, where different components of forest biomaterials are collected, characterized, separated, modified / processed, used and re-used cost-effectively for different purposes while forest ecosystem services are managed sustainably. In Uppsala, the focus lies on wood science and technology with research and education on wood materials from nano to macro levels, wood adhesives and composites, and with accredited testing of wood products and treatments for the market.
