The Department of Forest Resource Management conducts teaching and research in the areas of Forest Remote Sensing, Forest Inventory and Sampling, Mathematical Statistics Applied to Forest Sciences, Forest Management Planning, and Landscape Studies. The Department is also responsible for several environmental monitoring and assessment programs, including the Swedish National Forest Inventory, National Inventory of Landscapes in Sweden, Terrestrial Habitat Monitoring and the Butterfly and Bumblebee Inventory. The work done by the Department combines research and environmental analysis in cross-disciplinary projects, which gives unique opportunities to develop holistic approaches for a sustainable use of the natural resources. The Department is currently seeking a PostDoc within the subject area of Forest Remote Sensing. The work will include analysis of remotely sensed data for forestry applications. The candidate will work in research projects with other researchers in the Division of Forest Remote Sensing. One task is to analyse time series of satellite and radar images for detection of spruce bark beetle attacks. Another task is to analyse individual trees and tree species classification from high resolution aerial images.
Qualifications:
To be qualified for this position, the candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant area, preferable in Forest Remote Sensing, with focus on using digital 3D techniques. Computational programming or scripting are essential skills for this position. Experience of analysis of forest damages from remotely sensed data as well as analysis of individual tree crowns from high resolution raster images is a merit. Good collaborative ability and communicative ability in English is a requirement.
