Area of responsibilities/description of the work
The unit of Environmental health conducts research and applied work around three major themes: air pollution, noise and childhood allergy. Several studies are performed on environmental causes of cardiovascular disease, such as ambient air pollution and community noise. Studies on determinants of asthma and allergy in children focus on outdoor and indoor air pollution. Our interest is both in exposure characterisation and the relation to different outcomes. Most projects have an aim to strengthen the basis for environmental health risk assessment. Members of the group are engaged in risk assessment both nationally and internationally. The unit also performs investigations and gives support to regional authorities broadly on issues of environment and health.
The unit has an opening for a postdoc position during 1-3 years. The position focuses on epidemiological research on health effects of air pollution but gives also ample opportunity to interact with society to help research findings make a difference. One of the first tasks will be to analyse and report a time-series study on health effects from air pollution in sensitive subgroups.
Qualifications
We are looking for a dedicated scholar with a thorough knowledge of epidemiology, preferably with applications in environmental health or cardiovascular disease. Teaching experience is useful as well as involvement in risk assessment and support to authorities. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory. The research is highly collaborative and the applicant needs to possess the ability to interact in a multidisciplinary team as well as a willingness to learn and develop new expertise.
To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor?s degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the last date for applications should be given priority. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist.
Postgraduates who have yet to graduate may apply if their public defence is scheduled to take place within three months after the application deadline, in which case verification from the Dissertation Committee or equivalent body must be submitted with the application.
