Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is one of the largest departments at Chalmers. We represent a broad field of fundamental and applied research and education within chemistry and chemical engineering. Our research activities reach from fundamental chemistry, chemistry at the interface of biology and medicine, materials science, renewable energy, to chemical engineering processing, material recycling, nuclear chemistry, as well as theory and modelling. We are committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level.

Academic freedom, interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship and making societal impact, are key factors in our work. We strive to offer an environment where you can combine world leading research and teaching with a good work-life balance.Project description
The project aims to demonstrate a circular material flow for critical raw materials in the solar energy industry by developing efficient recycling and combined material production processes. The research challenges the resource limitation barriers to renewable solar energy production by proposing innovative recycling approaches. You will investigate the recycling and purification of valuable metals such as silver, indium, copper, and gallium from thin film solar cells by electrochemical methods. The research work will also include extensive characterization studies such as XRD, SEM-EDS, ICP-OES etc.

Information about the division and the department
The Nuclear Chemistry & Industrial Materials Recycling research group at the Division of Energy and Materials comprises 9 senior scientists and 13 PhD students and postdocs. The group is highly international, both regarding international collaborations and in the staff, which currently represents 11 nationalities.
We are specialized in aqueous chemistry, solvent extraction, high temperature processes, and supercritical fluid technology. Current research projects are challenging the main waste-related global problems; recycling of batteries, WEEE, solar cells, industrial production residuals, and other waste streams containing valuable metals or REEs.
Dr. Burcak Ebin is the research leader for the recycling of solar cells, and the topic covers different types of solar cells and modules as well as solar industry production waste.

Your major responsibility as a postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. You will also be expected to take responsibility for some of the departmental duties.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy and Material Science or Physics awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).

Other important qualifications are:
Decisive personality to overcome the research-based problems and not lose motivation in temporary difficulties.
Having perseverance and commitment to gain knowledge, to complete work, or to do well.
Being aware of responsibilities
