Work assignments
There is currently a lack of reliable estimates of population densities for several Swedish ungulates. In this project, you will be part of developing a novel Bayesian framework that integrates multiple data sources (e.g., hunting harvest, ungulate-vehicle collisions, direct observations) to estimate population densities at multiple spatial levels. The position is part of a governmental assignment to develop methods for wild boar density estimation, but you will also work on other ungulates, primarily roe and fallow deer.
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree - such as taking statutory leave - then these may be taken into consideration.
We are looking for someone with a doctoral degree in biology, ecology, statistics, mathematics, or another relevant field. Because of the methodologies used, it is a requirement that you have experience with Bayesian modeling and programming in R.
We also think that you have experience in and knowledge of population modeling and/or relevant experience with wildlife management. Stan will be the primary language and software used in the project, making such experience meriting, but experience with other languages such as JAGS or NIMBLE is also relevant.
You are able to work both independently to solve your tasks as well as collaborate with other personnel, both inside and outside of academia. You take responsibility for your work and can meet set deadlines. You have good communication skills, both in written language and oral presentations.
The workplace
You will be situated at the Biology division at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at Linköping University.
