hela Sverige Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees due to retirement among our current staff and an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a national centre for education and research in biomedical engineering. Our work is guided by the needs of the healthcare sector and is carried out in close collaboration with hospital clinics and the biomedical industry.
Our aim is to be a catalyst in the biomedical engineering innovation system of the future - an arena for leading international researchers and teachers, where new knowledge is created and disseminated. By integrating biomedical research, healthcare and the business sector, we help improve people's quality of life worldwide. Read more at

Hereby advertises a position as
Postdoc in Biomedical Engineering and Systems biology
formally based at the Department of Biomedical engineering
Duties
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
This project will be done in close collaboration with AstraZeneca, which desires to further develop their platform for mathematical modelling of cardiometabolic diseases. More specifically, they want to develop so called systems pharmacology models, which are mechanistic multi-level models that describes physiology and biochemistry on both the cell and whole-body level simultaneously. In the project, we will further develop existing such models for humans and rodents, and also develop new such models for microphysiological systems (organs-on-a-chip). These models are formulated using ordinary differential equations, and are normally simulated in matlab. The majority of the time will be spent in the group of Gunnar Cedersund at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Linköping university, but regular visits will be made to AstraZeneca, in Gothenburg (normally 3-4 days every 5 weeks). Such details are flexible to some degree. All results will normally be published in scientific journals.
Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
In this project, we are primarily looking for someone who has experience of mechanistic modelling of cardiometabolic diseases from his/her Ph.D. time. This modelling should, in that case, have been data-driven, i.e. the different model components should have been tested, determined, and refined using analysis of experimental and/or clinical data. It is generally considered to be a merit to have competence in any of the following subjects, which all will be used during the project: physiology, simulation, modelling, model-based data analysis, programming, statistical testing, cardiometabolic diseases, systems biology, systems pharmacology, etc. The most important such competences are those that concern the modelling. The project will be done in close collaboration with both modelling partners in Linköping, and with experimental partners at AstraZeneca. It is therefore important to be able to translate modelling questions and results to a language comprehensible by non-experts, such as experimental scientists. It is also important to function well in a collaborative group, and to be able to drive a project forward, both independently and with a steady pace. You need to be able to communicate in English because our department has a lot of international influences.
Appointment time
A Postdoc is appointed until further notice, but for no longer than two years. The appointment can be renewed if there are special reasons.
Starting date
By agreement, ideally September or October 2018.
Salary
The University applies individual salary scales adapted to the experience of the employee and to the labour market.
