Topics may include Arakelov geometry, birational and Calabi-Yau geometry, analytic torsion, and related height-theoretic or intersection-theoretic ideas. More details on the project follows below.
About us
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg has about 200 employees and is the largest department of mathematics in Sweden. We have an international environment with frequent exchanges with other universities around the world. We provide a friendly, creative, and supportive atmosphere with a steady flow of international guests. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all our activities. We work actively to be a parent-friendly organization.
At the Division of Algebra and Geometry we conduct research in areas such as algebraic geometry, complex geometry, number theory, mathematical physics and mathematics of AI.
About the research project
This project investigates broad questions in arithmetic and algebraic geometry, with a focus on invariants that capture geometric and arithmetic complexity. Topics may include Arakelov geometry, birational and Calabi-Yau geometry, analytic torsion, and related height-theoretic or intersection-theoretic ideas. The goal is to understand how such invariants behave under deformation and transformation, and to develop new tools that bridge geometric, analytic, and arithmetic perspectives. This project will be carried out in collaboration with Prof. Dennis Eriksson and his research group.
Research Environment
The postdoc will join a strong and international research community at Chalmers/University of Gothenburg, with active groups in algebraic geometry, number theory, and several complex variables. The environment offers regular seminars, collaborative opportunities, and connections to a wide global network.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with documented research strengths in arithmetic and algebraic geometry, broadly construed along the directions described above.
The following requirements are mandatory:
• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
• You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English
What you will do
Depending on background and interest, the postdoc may work on:
• New or classical height functions and Arakelov-type invariants;
• Birational and Calabi-Yau phenomena;
• Analytic torsion or local-global comparisons in intersection theory;
• Interactions between non-Archimedean, complex analytic, and geometric methods.
The project is deliberately flexible and can be shaped by the candidate's strengths.
Contract terms
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years.
The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
The expected starting date is September 2026, or as agreed.
