We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an exciting project at Chalmers University of Technology. The focus is on developing and applying cutting-edge microscopy techniques to study some of the most challenging materials of our time - advanced battery materials and solid-liquid interfaces.

About us
This position will be placed at the Division of Materials and Manufacture, which belong to the Department of Industrial and Materials Science.

The Department of Industrial and Materials Science shares knowledge and their vision of technical solutions for the future industry in a sustainable society. Through excellent research, innovation, and education, we contribute to the development of future industrial value chains.

In the division of Materials and Manufacture you'll join a friendly, international team passionate about shaping the future of materials and production. Our research spans innovative materials, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable solutions - always with real-world impact in mind, and with strong ties to industry. If you are interested in working experimentally and making a difference in the areas of materials and manufacturing, we look forward to receiving your application.

About the research project
The research project focuses on developing and applying cutting-edge microscopy techniques to gain new insights into some of today's most challenging materials - in particular, advanced battery materials and solid-liquid interfaces. By combining state-of-the-art instruments such as electron microscopy and atom probe tomography, the project aims to push the limits of characterization at the atomic scale. A key aspect of the work involves developing innovative approaches for handling and analyzing air-sensitive samples.
The research is highly relevant for the future of energy storage and green technologies, and you will be part of a vibrant, international team with strong collaborations across disciplines.

Who we are looking for
The following requirements are mandatory:

• To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, nanotechnology, or a related field awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline*.
• Experience with advanced microscopy (for example transmission electron microscopy (TEM), focused ion beam/scanning electron microscopy (FIB/SEM), cryogenic electron microscopy, or atom probe tomography (APT))
• You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate creativity as well as good potential within research and education.

• The date on your doctoral degree certificate is considered the official date of completion. Exceptions to the three-year eligibility limit may be made for documented circumstances such as parental leave, sick leave, or military service.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

• Experience with cryogenic methods, liquid phase electron microscopy, battery materials, and related sample preparation techniques is considered a merit.

What you will do

• Develop and apply advanced microscopy workflows to study battery materials and interfaces.
• Work with new approaches for preparing and transferring sensitive samples.
• Contribute to method development for imaging liquids and solid-liquid systems at the nanoscale.
• Collaborate with researchers at Chalmers and beyond, and share knowledge with the wider microscopy community.
• Publish and present your findings in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
• Supervise master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent and possibility to engage in teaching at undergraduate/master's level

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.

Contract terms
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.

What we offer

• As a postdoc at Chalmers, you are an employee and enjoy all employee benefits. Read more about working at Chalmers and our benefits for employees.

• A dynamic and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg.

• Read more about Sweden's generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, healthcare etc at Move To Gothenburg.
