AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. We're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. We believe in the potential of our people and you'll develop beyond what you thought possible.

The new R&D Oncology organisation brings together early and late oncology teams, from discovery through to late-stage development, with oncology specific Regulatory and Biometrics groups.

You'll be in a global pharmaceutical environment but also exposed to strong rigorous academic science. For example, every postdoc has an external academic mentor to ensure we are working and publishing at the highest level in a field. What's more, you'll have the support of a leading academic advisor, who'll provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career.

Our Discovery Sciences team operates from truly state-of-the-art centres spanning the UK, US and Sweden. You'll work with some of the most knowledgeable technological experts in the industry, all collaborating on high-profile drug discovery projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence to apply own findings to drug design and ultimately improve human health. You'll work within a multi-disciplinary team with a strong publication track record in developing new machine learning methods for drug design.

Artificial intelligence is everywhere around us and its application to drug design is a fast-moving field with a lot of promise. One of the hottest areas is in synthesis prediction. While methods to accurately predict outcomes of reactions have been developed, no one has so far developed an algorithm that use artificial intelligence to predict novel chemical reactions. The current project intends to make a step change in the way we execute a drug discovery project through identifying novel chemical reactions.

* You'll be responsible in using machine learning/artificial intelligence on a knowledge graph with chemical reaction data to discover novel chemical reactions and experimental conditions for existing chemical reactions.
* You'll actively collaborate with experts in chemical synthesis and chemistry automation which will validate the proposed reactions and reaction conditions in the chemistry lab.
* All our post doc benefit of the expertise of an external academic group recognized in the field which will co-supervise the work
* Work together cross disciplinary with scientists from different parts of AstraZeneca and to interact with postdocs and PhD students from several other research projects
* Publishing the work in high quality scientific journal is among our main priorities
