As electronics continues to increase in terms of functionality, performance at a given size, heat dissipation problem is becoming increasingly serious, which significantly affects the performance and lifetime of the devices. Therefore, thermal management of electronics and power modules is of great importance for further development of them.

Project description
You will address fundamental issues of nanochannel transport in viscos media using modelling and simulation tools such as MDS, fluid flow modelling software and carry out characterization of 2D materials in combination with polymers/inorganic materials in applications such as immersion cooling and electronics component/system level cooling. The work will be conducted with electronics cooling partners in Sweden and globally. The research work will also include thermal, materials as well as spectroscopic characterization including RAMAN, FTIR, DSC, DMA, Joule heating etc.

Information about the department and division
The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2) focuses on research, innovation and education in the fields of electronics packaging, MEMS, bioelectronics, microwave electronics and terahertz devices, photonics, quantum technology and nanosystems with a significant focus on materials and process development. A close collaboration with Swedish and international partners within academia, industry, and society creates a creative environment. In addition to the 200 researchers and Ph.D. students, MC2 houses a cleanroom for micro- and nanofabrication. The Electronics Materials and Systems Laboratory (EMSL) is the home for the electronics packaging activities where thermal management using new materials for cooling of future electronics systems is one of the essential research topics.

Major responsibilities
Your responsibilities will be modelling and characterizing 2D materials for thermal management applications, especially regarding nanochannel fluid flow and imersion cooling behaviour.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
Engineering physics, thermal and mechanics background with strong materials characterization and modelling capacity are desirable qualifications.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
