Postdoc
Coupled folding and binding: spider silk proteins and BRICHOS domains.
A full-time postdoctoral position is available for an experienced structural biologist. The project involves structure-function studies of coupled folding and binding and includes structural studies using both high resolution (X-ray crystallography) and lower resolution (SAXS) methods as well as binding studies and biophysical characterization of individual binding partners and complexes.
Research:The research is primarily directed towards structural biology, i.e. structure/function studies of macromolecules. Protein engineering is an important part of these functional studies. Teaching:The main teaching is done in the basic undergraduate course in molecular cell biology. In collaboration with Uppsala University, an advanced course in protein engineering is offered, suitable also for PhD students. A postgraduate course on protein structures is given each year.
Duties: The successful candidate will work together with structural biologists at the Department of Molecular Biology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) at the
Biomedical Centre (BMC), Uppsala and in close collaboration with research groups at the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, SLU, Uppsala and at the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, KI, Stockholm.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD with documented experience in Molecular Biology and/or Protein Chemistry methods including work with cell cultures, cloning and expression of proteins, and protein purification. Documented experience of protein crystallization and structural analysis using X-ray crystallography and lower-resolution techniques such as SAXS is qualifying. The applicant should have good communication skills and proven skills in both oral and written scientific English. To be appointed as a postdoc, applicant should have been awarded her/his PhD no more than three years before the time of application.
Form of employment: Temporary employment, 1 year employment which can be extended to in total 2 years.
