Identification and validation of novel pharmaceutical drug targets for cardiovascular disease

EU Consortium Project CARTARDIS

EU Consortium Project CarTarDis consortium is one of the three large FP/-HEALTH-2013 INNOVATION-1 projects supported by the EU. It is a public-private partnership composed of 13 different groups including us AZ, CVMD iMed, as the only large Pharmaceutical Company representative. Twelve (9) Bio-Tech companies + three (3) academic institutions in EU including KI (see figure attached) and 8 Million Euros. The aim of CarTarDis is to enhance efforts to identify and validate novel pharmaceutical drug targets for cardiovascular disease, the main cause of mortality and hospitalization in EU.
The project aim to have a strong pharmaceutical work flow. First, available data from three independent cardiovascular cohorts will be mined for statistical association with cardiovascular disease phenotypes, with preferences for genetic associations. Following selection and prioritization of potential targets by filters of information including biological function, mechanism of action, drugability, assayability and freedom to operate. Candidate targets will be validated using biobanks material and in vitro and in vivo preclinical models.

Pos-doc Job Description

In silicon discovery and prioritization of potential drug targets;
Design and implementation of a web-based data management system;
Identification of predictive biomarkers to understand the metabolic pathways of the diseases;
Independently carrying out research projects analysis of human omics-datasets on cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

Your Qualifications

Ph.D degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics or related fields;
Excellent programming skills, experience in web technologies and relational databases;
Experience in drug target discovery;
Solid knowledge of biochemistry with understanding of mechanism of metabolic diseases, especially CVD;
Strong team spirit, excellent communication skills in English in an international environment.

The post-doc position will be placed in AstraZeneca, CVMDiMed (CardioVascular Metabolic Disease innovative Medicine), Mölndal, Sweden at the Translational Science Department working with the Bioinformatic Team.
