Description
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Karlstad University, Sweden, has an opening for a post-doctoral research fellow in the field of software engineering.

The position is a full time, two year position. The post-doctoral fellow will be member of the Software Engineering Research Group (SERG) and work in one or more of their focus research areas and, more specifically, will work in the NDHC project. The research of SERG aims at developing methods and techniques to continuously preserve, improve, and adapt quality attributes of long-living software systems in order to allow such systems to be maintained and to evolve more easily. Current focus areas are:

• Detection of and mitigation against software architecture degradation and other forms of technical debt
• Design and evolution of security- and privacy-critical systems
• Quality assurance techniques, such as testing, for long-living systems

Special emphasize is put on the empirical evaluation of methods and techniques often performed in collaboration with industrial partners. The NDHC (Nordic Digital Health Center) project is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Karlstad University and several other research facilities, public organizations and businesses from Norway and Sweden. The project aims at establishing a Nordic center for development and evaluation of information technology for the healthcare and welfare sector. SERG's focus in this project will be to provide methods for designing and testing evolvable software systems for the healthcare and welfare domain. For this post, we are looking for a strongly motivated individual who has a strong research record related to the focus areas mentioned above and the NDHC project. As the group is in a phase of expansion, the candidate has also the possibility to participate in the initiation of new research projects and collaborations related to the above-mentioned research areas.

Requirements

To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold a PhD in Computer Science with a specialization in software engineering or have corresponding qualifications. The candidate must have completed the degree no more than three years before the last date for application, unless special grounds exist. Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.

Assessment grounds

In the assessment procedure, emphasis will be given to the applicant's scientific experience in relation to the SERG focus areas and to the NDHC project in which the applicant is expected to work. Knowledge or experience in some of the areas of software architecture, software reengineering, software evolution and software analysis are considered an advantage. Good programming skills and solid knowledge of empirical software engineering methods are highly desirable.

Strong motivation and the ability to work independently as well as to collaborate with other researchers -from other research groups in the department as well as other institutions- are important characteristics. Experience from participating in national and international interdisciplinary research projects with partners from academia and industry is an advantage, as well as experience in applying for research funding.

Applications should be sent digitally and include the following items:

• Personal letter describing the applicant and her/his research interests in relation to the announced position
• A detailed CV
• List of publications
• Copies of relevant diplomas, certificates and recommendation letters
• Contact information of at least two reference persons
