Duties: A Post-doc position for a time period of 18 months starting in February 2011 at the
Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics is now open for applications. The position will
be part of a collaboration project between Århus University in Denmark and MTT Agrifood
Research in Finland. The project aims to develop new methods to apply genomic selection
in practice with emphasis on the Swedish Red dairy breed (SRB). Strong emphasis will be
on exploring methodologies to increase the accuracy of genomic selection based on
previous work and optimise genomic predictions to deal with heterogeneous data as a
result from the influence of other breeds such as Norwegian and Finnish Red Breeds in SRB.
Specifically, the project aims to utilize information from work done on the extent and
persistence of linkage disequilibrium in the SRB in comparison to the other Nordic Red
Breeds and to accommodate such information in the development of genomic models.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree in Animal
Breeding or in another relevant scientific field. Emphasis will be placed on knowledge of
molecular and quantitative genetics, statistics and computing skills applied to animal
genetics. Especially relevant will be working experience on genomic models for small cattle
breeds with admixture and genetic structure. Good social and communication skills are also
required. The successful applicant must be able to work both independently, and with other
team members and collaborators of the project.
To be appointed as a post-doc, applicant should have been awarded her/his Ph D no more
