The laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine (MIMS,
www.mims.se) was established in 2007 as a partner institution of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (www.embl.org) together with the new Nordic nodes for molecular medicine in Finland and Norway. The aim of MIMS is to strengthen Swedish research and enhance the dynamics in the field of molecular medicine, partly by promoting the career opportunities for young scientists. MIMS is established within the Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR,
www.ucmr.se) that includes researchers active in the fields of molecular and clinical microbiology, molecular biology, chemistry and physics and is closely connected to the university hospital.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in microbiology, immunology, infectious disease or a related subject. A strong research experience (at least 3 years) in the molecular biology and genetics of the human fungal pathogen Candida albicans with an emphasis on morphotype switching is beneficial for the position. The successful applicant will investigate the responses of mouse innate immune cells towards different morphological forms of C. albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus in wild-type and different mutant mouse strains. Therefore, experience in handling mice and preparing organs for microscopic analysis is essential.
