The position is for the period 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2011 or as otherwise agreed. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to bring along plans for his/her own demographic research based on Swedish register data, to collaborate intensively with other project members, and contribute to the development of register-based research.
â€Register-based Research in Nordic Demography†is a research program financed for 2008-2013 by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet). It is administered at the Stockholm University Demography Unit (SUDA), Department of Sociology and coordinated by Associate Professor Gunnar Andersson. The project brings together researchers on migration and family dynamics from SUDA and the Department of Human Geography and collaborates with register researchers in other Nordic and European countries. The overarching goal is to produce research that exploits the unique qualities that only register data have.
Applicants must have a PhD level academic degree received after April 2006 and be fluent in both spoken and written English. They are expected to be able to perform high level research and publish in international refereed journals. Employment criteria include the degree to which the applicant’s research plan supports the project’s overall goals and provides opportunities to develop Nordic register-based research in demography.
The positions will be filled for a fixed term of two years. Salaries are commensurate with those for Assistant Professors in Sweden but may be adjusted based on an applicant’s individual experience and merits.
The application must include the following documents:
• research plan (3 pages) - curriculum vitae, including publication list
• copies of degree certificates - two recommendation letters
• two manuscripts with own empirical demographic analyses
Prospective applicants are encouraged to consult with the project coordinator or other project members about their current and future research agendae. Contact information is provided at
