The employment will be within the framework of the newly initiated Center for Capability in Ageing - From Genes to Society (AGECAP). AGECAP takes a holistic view on the ageing society and brings together researchers in fields such as sociology, psychiatry, psychology, neurochemistry and rehabilitation. The purpose of AGECAP is to study the challenges and possibilities that the ageing societies are facing and connect individual and social circumstances. Working within AGECAP means that you will have access to, and are expected to contribute to, an interdisciplinary research environment. You will also be able to utilize unique databases and have the opportunity to participate in the planning and implementation of new studies.
Subject area
Sociology or similar subject relevant for the position
Specific subject description
Ageing societies are facing many challenges. Two of the most critical are: the ability for older people to remain in employment and the ability for older people to lead a good and decent life once they left the labor market. The research to be conducted relate to both these issues and concerns, in a broad sense, the intersection between individual circumstances (individual resources, health and individual preferences) and societal circumstances (access to employment, working conditions, welfare arrangements and societal values). To address these issues we need research based on a detailed knowledge of the individual's circumstances and the society at large. It also requires that we can analyze and understand how and why conditions change from period to period, vary between countries and changes during an individual's life course.
Job assignments
The responsibilities consist primarily of original research on issues affecting older people's relationship to work and the living conditions of older people after they are retired. Teaching and supervision may be included in the duties to a maximum of 20% of the time. The concrete research will mainly be based on the longitudinal databases that are already available within AGECAP as the Panel Survey of Ageing and the Elderly (PSAE) and the extensive H70 study. In addition, it will be possible to work with existing data, such as the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) and if necessary, to build your own registry-based databases and participate in the collection of primary data in the context of AGECAP. The appointee will conduct research which provides a substantial contribution to the above described area of research. The successful candidate is expected to perform most of their duties in place in Gothenburg, and actively participate in AGECAP's activities such as workshops, seminars and conferences.
Eligibility
Applicants must have completed a PhD in sociology or a similar subject relevant for the specified position.
