Research:
The department offers a creative and stimulating international environment and is associated with Uppsala BioCenter at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and the Linnean Center for Plant Biology in Uppsala. The research at the department focuses on plants, but various plant pathogens and model organisms are also studied. Our primary areas or research are the interaction between plants and microorganisms, and other forms of stress, biotechnology, metabolic engineering, growth and development of plants, gene expression regulation, population genetics, genome analyses and the development of breeding systems. The species used are model organisms such as Arabidopsis thaliana, Physcomitrella, and crops such as rapeseed, basket willow (Salix), potato, barley, and wheat. Much genomic analysis is done in collaboration with SciLife Laboratory, Uppsala.
Education:
The department is responsible for a range of courses in several master and bachelor programs such as general and molecular genetics, cell biology, plant physiology, plant diversity & breeding, gene technology, and molecular interactions between plants and pathogens. Besides, the department contributes to various other courses together with other departments and universities.
Duties:
The research group is studying the small RNA machinery and role in the potato - P. infestans interaction. Based on our small RNA and transcript data achieved in this pathosystem we hypothesize that selected Agos are involved in this process when the plant is under attack. We aim to clarify some of those aspects. The work involves bioinformatic analyses, followed by protein-protein interaction and cellular localization experiments together with production of knock-out gene candidates.
Qualifications:
The candidate should have a PhD with emphasis on molecular genetics, functional genomics, bioinformatics, small RNA biology or related topics. Knowledge in functional genomics and small RNA biology is an advantage.
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to the written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, (diploma/exam work), personal references (please include e-mail addresses or reference letter) and an interview. The applicant should have good and proven skills in both oral and written English. Personal qualities such as the ability to collaborate, self-motivation and interest in laboratory and computer analysis are of high importance. The candidate is expected to start the project as soon as an agreement is settled.
Place of work:
Ultuna, Uppsala
Form of employment:
The candidate will be a scholarship holder for 1 year via a personal contract from Carl Tryggers Foundation
Extent:
