The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
Tasks:
MAX IV and Chalmers have entered into a collaboration aiming at developing new instrumentation and scientific capabilities at MAX IV.
The purpose of this project is to develop and implement a sample environment for in-situ nano-mechanical testing at MAX IV. The set-up will be based on a commercial nano-indenter, intended for in-situ operation in scanning electron microscopes (SEM), which will be adapted for use on synchrotron beam lines. The post doc will be responsibilie for specifying, designing, purchasing, assembling and commissioning the sample environment, in close collaboration with Chalmers and the sample environment group at MAX IV. This also includes the development and integration of control systems and data handling/evaluation.
Once the sample environment is operational, it is expected that the candidate will perform in-house research on a selected topic defined together with Chalmers and MAX IV scientists (nominally on coherent nano-diffraction from deformation-induced defects). Involvement in the activities of the SEDS team and/or routine user support, presumably at NanoMAX, is also expected. Possible collaboration with other projects coordinated by Chalmers can be included as well.
Qualificatons:
The successful candidate has:
- A PhD in natural sciences
- Demonstrated experience in X-ray scattering
- Experience in instrumentation development and/or implementation
- Experience in programming and/or implementation of control software
- Ability to work independently
- Fluent English, written and oral
Experience in working in an international and strongly demanding environment as well as experience in user support in synchrotrons are an asset.
The position is a 2 year temporary employment.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
