About Malmö University
Malmö University is an innovative, urban and international institute of higher education, located in the centre of Malmö. We have around 1,800 employees and 24,000 students. Our research and education are characterised by the role we believe a university should play in an open society - to contribute to sustainability and equality in a scientifically grounded way with external partners and stakeholders. Identifying and addressing the challenges of the future are of highest priority. Our researchers and students work collaboratively to create, share and spread knowledge in order to understand, explain and develop society - both locally and globally.

Faculty of Health and Society
Our education and research is conducted with the vision of promoting health and participation. The faculty conducts research that focuses on societal problems and seeks solutions in several fields of research. We develop leading professional education programs that provide healthcare, social work and enterprises with competent staff. Our education and research are located in three locations in Malmö.

Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces
The present position will be a part of the large academic research environment at Malmö University, the University spanning research centre Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces (www.mah.se/biofilms). The overall objective of Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces is to produce high quality front line research within the biomedical field, to offer relevant and attractive degree programs, and to maintain good reciprocal relations with partner industries and the public sector. The centre today comprises four research groups (60 researchers) and offers a truly translational network for applied research, in collaboration with regional industry. The centre expertise covers the range from mathematical modelling to clinical sciences.

Research environment
The major part of the research at the faculty addresses the two research and educational profiles "Biological Interfaces" and "Health and Social Conditions in a Life Cycle Perspective". The position will be active in Biological Interfaces, which has a focus on the interplay between materials, biomolecules, and cells, on molecular, nano, micro, and macroscopic levels. The faculty research is also linked to the research programme "Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces", that combines research with medical, dental, food, and environmental applications, at three faculties, in close collaboration with regional industry.

About the position
The focus of the project will be the characterisation of the structure of the Dhurrin metabolon reconstituted in proteoliposomes. Metabolons are complexes of membrane bound enzymes, that require the concerted action of the enzymes to produce a given compound without leaking toxic intermediates. This is a highly interdisciplinary project that span over various disciplines and requires the close collaboration with Dr. Tomas Laursen at University of Copenhagen. Copenhagen is just a short train ride away from our locations in Malmö and we expect that you visit ofter Dr. Laursen's group.

The main tasks of the postdoc

1.Reconstitution of proteoliposomes under controlled compositions.
2.Structural determination of the individual enzymes and complexes by small angle neutron scattering and neutron
reflection in a set of conditions.
3.Assessment of the functional metabolon by a range of biophysical and biochemical techniques.

Apart from carrying out research within these areas the applicant is expected to take responsibility for the maintenance of the instruments involved and to be active by supervising postgraduate students and fellow scientists in the techniques and participate in teaching at post graduate and graduate levels. In addition, the applicant will be expected to take part in applications for external funding to support research activities.

Required Qualifications and Criteria for Assessment of Applicants
Candidates must have demonstrated scientific competence corresponding to a doctoral degree. The ideal candidate has a cross-disciplinary background with general competence in biophysics and molecular biology. Previous hands-on experience in scattering based techniques at large scale facilities are required for this position (focus on small angle X-ray/neutron scattering and neutron reflection). Previous experience of having worked with proteins and lipids as well as strong analytical skills incl. the use of molecular dynamic simulations is desired.
