The Division of Biogeophysics and Water quality at the Department of Soil and Environment conducts research on flows and storages of water, heat and mass in the soil-plant-atmosphere system, with wide-ranging applications to sustainable management of water resources and human and ecosystem health. The development and application of process-based simulation models is an important aspect of our approach, both in a fundamental scientific sense, by helping us to improve our understanding of the key processes, but also as a means of efficient knowledge transfer to stakeholders and decision-makers in public authorities and industry, through the development of PC-based user-friendly decision-support tools.
Research area: A one-year post-doctoral position is available at the Division. The work will focus on the development and testing of estimation algorithms for model parameters governing soil water flow and solute transport, especially predicting the effects of macropores on hydraulic properties and non-equilibrium solute transport using a hydropedological conceptual framework. The successful candidate is expected to work closely with Prof. Nicholas Jarvis and other colleagues at the Division, contributing towards the further development and application of pesticide risk assessment tools at catchment and landscape scales.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of water flow and solute transport processes in soils, skills in statistical methods, and experience or knowledge of commonly used solute transport models. The successful candidate should have proven good written and oral communication skills in scientific English and should have recently completed (within 2 years) a PhD in a subject area relevant for the position.
SLU is an equal opportunity employer.
