Overview
Are you ready to use your knowledge of cell and molecular biology to impact on our understanding of heart function? Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm Sweden, and AstraZeneca, Cambridge, UK, are looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join a novel translational project, at the forefront of an Industry-Academia joint venture, focused on using antibodies and modified RNA technology to investigate calcium cycling pathways. This collaboration provides a unique opportunity to build a new paradigm in the treatment of heart failure and extend our knowledge of key components that regulate cardiac function.
You will work in two world-leading laboratories. Initially you will join AstraZeneca at their new research centre and headquarters in Cambridge/UK. From within the AZ Antibody team, part of the Reagents and Assay Development Department of Discovery Sciences, you will generate the key tools to progress your project. You will then move on to work primarily at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, studying their effects in models of heart failure. You?ll have huge scope to explore new ideas and opportunities in energizing environments, with access to state of the art technology platforms, cutting-edge knowledge and experimental techniques.
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of human health through research and education. Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40 per cent of the medical academic research conducted in Sweden and offers the country's broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. Since 1901 the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has selected the Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine.
AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world?s most serious diseases. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
This role involves working as a lab-based postdoctoral investigator to deliver and characterise intracellular acting antibodies against key proteins involved in cardiac regulation. As a strongly self-motivated and independent individual you will be adept at working across boundaries, enabling you to maximise value from the available resources. You will be expected to work within the laboratory of the academic partner at Karolinska Institutet and those of AstraZeneca Discovery Sciences to progress your project, within a 3 year timeframe. Please note that relocation support will be offered.
The role will...
