Title: Exploring the relationship between elevated systemic glucose concentration and inflammation in co-morbidities of chronic disease.
Description of Opportunity:
Chronic diseases rarely occur in isolation and represent an ever increasing burden on healthcare systems and patient outcomes in complex treatment paradigms. Through a translational approach that combines biomarker measurements in human samples with the development and characterisation of novel animal models, the goal of this research project is to bring together the COPD and Diabetes research areas to contribute to the development of more effective therapies for COPD. Your work will incorporate the use of genetic, dietary and pharmacological approaches in order to drive conditions that represent specific co-morbidities and determine whether these can be modulated by therapeutic agents.
This position represents an excellent opportunity to develop your scientific career through working in a large pharmaceutical company in close collaboration with external academic clinical experts in the Respiratory and Inflammation area. You will be expected to collaborate closely with AstraZeneca scientists across both the Diabetes and COPD disease areas and disseminate your results widely both within AstraZeneca and externally via participation in meetings, conferences and publications.
Minimum experience:
A PhD in one or more of the following areas:
Lung function and physiology
Immunology or a related field
Diabetes and/or obesity
Preferred experience/requirements:
Mouse models of inflammation and lung function
Theoretical and practical understanding of the role of inflammation in driving lung pathophysiological processes
Proven ability to work independently and publish results
