www.slu.seWe are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to take an active role in a research program related to the mechanisms of Norway spruce resistance to the root rot fungus Heterobasidion annosum. The project involves understanding the mechanisms of spruce cell death in response to fungal attack. A long-term goal of this program is to develop strategies for breeding resistant genotypes of Norway spruce.
You will combine microscopy, biochemistry, and molecular genetics approaches to investigate how cell death is induced and executed. You will then use this knowledge to develop the methods to control cell death.
You will work in a multidisciplinary team of scientists from the two departments, Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics and Department of Forest Mycology and Pathology, Uppsala BioCenter, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala. We have a stimulating international environment and the departments contribute internationally to basic and applied research on agricultural crops, forest trees, and model organisms. Further information about the departments and the ongoing research can be found on
www.vbsg.slu.se and
www.mykopat.slu.se. In 2011, the department will together with four other departments move into the new building designed for the BioCenter research activities (
http://bioc.slu.se) .
Qualifications: PhD degree in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related area, with a strong background in molecular biology. Ideally, he/she will have experience in studying cell death in trees and Arabidopsis. An interest for interdisciplinary approaches is essential. The applicant should have good communication skills and proven skills in both oral and written scientific English. To be appointed as a postdoc, applicant should have been awarded her/his PhD no more than three years ago at the time of application.
