Title: Post Doc Neuroscience, Towards translational Alzheimer's models and personalized health care: Mechanistic studies of induced-pluripotent cell cultures derived from patients with different ApoE backgrounds.
Description of Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the department of Neuroscience in the AstraZeneca CNS&Pain Innovative Medicines division. The research project will focus on using patient-derived, induced pluripotent stem-cells to study how the Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene is involved in the development of Alzheimer's pathology.
There are no animals that naturally contract Alzheimer's disease and so your first goal will be to create and evaluate, using a range of functional, phenotypic and epigenetic measurements, relevant human stem-cell-derived tissue cultures so that the disease pathology can be studied in a more appropriate cellular environment. This part of the work will contribute broadly and significantly to AstraZeneca's efforts to develop therapies for Alzheimer's disease.
Your second goal will be to improve our understanding of how the ApoE gene contributes to the pathogenesis of sporadic Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of Alzheimer's in the general population. Using cell cultures derived from people with different forms of the ApoE gene we will evaluate how this gene affects pathological mechanisms.
Finally, this project will be a collaborative effort between academia and various disciplines within AstraZeneca. An important part of this work will be to actively drive these collaborations and increase awareness and interaction between laboratories. Your scientific research will also give you the opportunity to work with (and influence) fellow scientists across many other disciplines. You will be expected to deliver the results of your novel research in-house, externally via meetings and, through publications.
Minimum experience:
A PhD in one or more of the following areas:
Cell biology with a focus on stem-cell biology
Cell biology with a focus on neuroscience, neurodegenerative disorders and Alzheimer's disease
The biology of ApoE with a focus on the effects of the ApoE4 isoform
