Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

Linnaeus University is the result of a merger between Kalmar University and Växjö University. The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science (including palaeoecology) and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. For more information see: Lnu.se

The research project will focus on pollen-based Holocene land-cover reconstructions at the regional and local spatial scales using a modelling approach. These reconstructions will be used primarily by climate modelers. The research group at Linnaeus University includes two professors, two postdocs and a number of external PhD students (affiliated to other Swedish Universities) involved in the research projects of the group. Professor M.-J. Gaillard coordinates a large international network, LandCover6k, endorsed by the international research platform PAGES (PAst Global changES). It involves collaboration with archaeologists and climate/vegetation/land-use modelers. The research project is a contribution to LandCover6k.

Qualification requirements for the position are a PhD in environmental science (with a focus on palaeoecology and pollen analysis), experience in pollen-vegetation modelling, and knowledge of general Holocene vegetation history over the globe. Skills in Geographical Information System (GIS) and multivariate numerical analysis are also required.

Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include a high proficiency in written and spoken English, the ability to solve problems, work independently, and interact in a research group.

Terms of employment:
The position will be 100 % during 2 years from 2017-11-01.
The position is located in Kalmar, Sweden.
