The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.
Project title
Metatranscriptomics of deep terrestrial microbial communities.
The research project
This position is within a collaborative with Linnaeus University along with groups from Uppsala University and The Royal Technical High School, Stockholm that are coupled to SciLifeLab. The project will model how the microorganisms survive and adapt in an extremely oligotrophic environment in the deep biosphere. The project will use state-of-the-art techniques in metagenomics and metatranscriptomics along with single cell sequencing.
Requirements
Applicants shall have a Ph.D. in microbiology or systems biology or bioinformatics.
Other criteria
Presentation of documented evidence of research experience in systems biology, the deep biosphere, or handling large â'omics' data sets would also place the candidate at an advantage.
Terms of employment
The position will be 100 % for 1 year, with good opportunities to be extended. The starting date is from the 1 February 2015. The position is located in Kalmar, Sweden but the appointed candidate will likely spend time in Uppsala and Stockholm with the project collaborators.
