The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Post doc - Molecular biologist at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Science, Malmö
The Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Unit runs several major national and international projects focused on understanding the role of genomic and lifestyle factors in complex metabolic diseases like diabetes, obesity and CVD.
The Unit currently hosts several doctoral students, post-docs and junior faculty. The Unit has led major projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, European Research Council and Innovative Medicines Initiative, several of which are ongoing. We are currently seeking to recruit a talented molecular biologist.
The successful applicant will be expected to work the vast majority of her/his time at the Unit's workspace at the CRC, Malmö. Occasional international travel for training and collaboration meetings will be necessary.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a strong background in molecular biology, with specific expertise in the following:
- a PhD in molecular biology with 2-years relevant post-graduate experience
- culture of cells and clonal selection
- establishing basic functional assays
- recombinant technology including cloning, sequencing of DNA and mutational approaches
- plasmid handling, well experienced in cloning and transfection procedures (ideally lenti-virus based transfections as well)
- basic bioinformatic skills such as mapping of genes and regulatory elements, splicing signals and determining SNP identities
- a firm understanding of the omics cascade (genetics, epigenetics, mRNA, proteomics)
The successful applicant will also be:
- fastidious in their work, with a keen eye for detail
- meticulous with regard to lab safety
- highly motivated to establish new techniques
- comfortable working more or less independently, yet communicating well with the team leaders
- knowledgeable of gene editing techniques (ideally in CRISPR Cas9)
- willing to train and mentor junior lab members

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.
