Project Title: Mechanistic drivers of receptor pharmacology by NMR spectroscopy and molecular modelling.
Post Doc Location: AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal, Sweden.
Description of Opportunity
At the Respiratory & Inflammation department, we offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced NMR spectroscopist within a project targeting the molecular mechanisms of hormone action. Nuclear hormone receptors play a key role in inflammatory processes and are well established targets for pharmaceutical intervention with a rich and some-times tissue-specific pharmacology. It well known that the pharmacology can be modulated with small molecule ligands with a common mechanism driven through the ligand-specific recruitment of co-factors with different transcriptional response.
Your work will focus on the use of NMR spectroscopy and computational techniques to investigate nuclear hormone receptor dynamics and conformation. You will use NMR relaxation methods to access weakly-populated species and map the dynamic conformation of the receptor upon binding various ligands and/or co-factors. Molecular simulation and innovative visualization will be used to describe the effects and their translation into molecular design. Your scientific research will also give you the opportunity to work with (and influence) fellow scientists across many other disciplines. You will be expected to deliver the results of your novel research in-house via global working groups and externally via meetings and through publications.
The role's major responsibilities
Acquire and analyse NMR data on ligand-receptor interactions for a series of complexes. As necessary develop novel methods to investigate relevant phenomena.
Develop and perform computational analysis and simulations to quantify and effectively visualize the molecular effects.
Show strong initiative in developing ideas, and bringing them to functional use within AstraZeneca.
Interface with scientists from across many disciplines while at the same time being able to work independently.
Communicate results both within AstraZeneca via global working groups and externally at meetings and through publications.
Work collaboratively with other experts within Structural Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and the AZ organization.
Effectively communicate and publish scientific papers describing the outcome of your research.
Minimum experience
A PhD with background in NMR spectroscopy. You should have a strong interest and proven experience from analysis of protein conformation and dynamics by NMR relaxation measurements.
