We are looking for a Senior Polymer Engineer to develop and drive ideas for new biopolymer products and processes in line with Biomaterials Innovation strategy. Your location will be Sickla in Stockholm and you will report directly to the Director of Research Biobarriers Innovation, biomaterials.

The Biomaterials innovation organization focuses on identifying business opportunities and developing new products in markets for renewable materials and bio-based chemicals. Our aim is to work closely with our customers to understand their strategies and devise solutions to support and boost their competitive advantage. Biobarrier Innovation team acts as a center of excellence in next generation barrier solutions for (food) packaging. The target is to generate breakthrough technological barrier solutions into pilot/demo scale. We are working with a startup-like dedication to innovation and have a collaborative, open and entrepreneurial team spirit. Biobarriers Innovation is a diverse and multi-disciplinary team that today consists of 16 members from 5 different nationalities.

As a Senior Polymer Engineer your responsibilities will include:
• Innovation and IPR - Generate, develop and drive ideas for new products and processes in line with Biomaterials Innovation strategy. Set direction in the competence area and scope the ideas. Generate and report inventions according to Innovation guidelines.
• Projects - Design, carry out, lead and follow up projects and project activities. Educate and supervise colleagues.
• Monitor Technology - Follow and screen relevant technology and science (academic and commercial). Act on topics relevant for Stora Enso to engage in.
• External R&D - Actively participate as representative from Stora Enso in the steering of external R&D projects. Ensure that external R&D is coordinated with and implemented in Stora Enso's internal R&D efforts in line with internal strategy and management decisions.
• Communication - Report own work according to guidelines. Present own work and own competence area in internal project meetings and external meetings. Be the expert in customer meetings. Excellent communication, collaboration and interactive team management and leadership skills. Professional and confident presentation and public speaking skills and ability to communicate with all levels in the organization. Lead in the areas of expertise and coach colleagues.
Tasks
As a Senior Polymer Engineer you will be focusing on developing biobased barrier materials with excellent sustainability profile. You lend your polymer processing expertise to various product development projects. You will develop bio-based packaging material compositions and end-use structures. Your tasks include planning, executing, analyzing and reporting all necessary laboratory and pilot trials work. You will also coordinate required lab work with internal & external R&D services. You will engage in biobased product development from idea to scale.

Qualifications
Are you the one? In order to succeed in this role, you have Minimum 10 years of R&D experience; Several years' experience in innovation, R&D or production positions. Your proficiency is based on a Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree or equivalent knowledge in a relevant area such as Polymer Engineering/Polymer Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Material engineering/Plastic Engineering. Experience with investment projects and processes is a benefit, as well as experience in management of small or mid-sized projects in manufacturing industry.
You are goal-oriented and driven and you have self-directed way of working. Cooperative, focused and organized way of working are words that describe you. You are a great communicator and you communicate fluently in English both orally and in writing. Finnish or Swedish language skill is an asset. You have a strong customer focus, anticipate customer needs and seek customer feedback. This position requires travelling.

The Biomaterials division meets the growing demand for the replacement of products made from fossil-based and hazardous materials with bio-based solutions. We use all fractions of biomass, like lignin and sugars, to develop new solutions. We work to replace fossil-based materials with new applications such as carbon for energy storage, bio-based binders, and bio-based carbon fiber. The division's offering includes a wide variety of pulp grades to meet the demands of paper, board, tissue, textile and hygiene product producers as well as materials from side streams of our processes, such as tall oil and turpentine from biomass.
