The Embassy of Canada in Stockholm is seeking for April 2011 a qualified individual to fill a one year locally engaged term position as Political Affairs and Public Diplomacy Officer.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Political Counsellor, recommend and carries forward objectives, plans and implementation of visits and events and helps deliver the Embassy's Political Affairs and Public Diplomacy component as a member of the of the Political and Economic Relations and Public Affairs (PERPA) Program and team of the Embassy. This includes considerable analysis and reporting, as well as liaison with Swedish government officials and others. Dissemination about Canada and promotion of Canadian values and interests, through outreach, advocacy, and other means are key duties.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Note: Failure to meet any of the essential requirements will eliminate candidates from further consideration in the competition
• A University degree from a recognized institution.
• Absolute fluency in English and Swedish, both written and spoken.
• A minimum of 5 years of work experience as an officer or similar position in an office environment, either in a government or private sector capacity.
• Excellent analytical skills in an area of expertise related to the position.
• Proven project and event planning and organizational experience.
• Proficiency in the use of standard office suite applications (e.g. word- processing, internet, e-mail, spreadsheet, database).
RATED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills:
• Extensive knowledge of Swedish political, economic, civic and cultural issues and infrastructure
• Proven superior analytical and research skills
• Project, events and hospitality planning skills
• Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and Swedish
Competencies / Personal suitability:
• Team Player
• Sound Judgement
• Ability to establish and maintain effective contacts and work with officials at all levels
• Strong initiative; self starter
• Ability to set priorities and manage multiple demands
• Adaptable & flexible
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
• Working knowledge of French
• International work experience
• Education and/or work experience in a field related to economic issues
• Information management experience
• Budget management experience
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Ability to obtain the required security clearance
• Valid residency and work permit in Sweden
