The PhD-student position will be placed at Faculty of Health and Society. In order to be considered for appointment as a doctoral student, the applicant must be accepted or have already been accepted for doctoral studies. The research topic is “Biomedical technology (BMT) and the Faculty examine Doctors of Philosophy (i.e, in swedish: Teknologie doktor, Filosofie doktor, Doktor i medicinsk vetenskap and Medicine doktor).

When making the appointment, under Chapter 5, Section 5 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, consideration must be given to the student’s ability to benefit from doctoral studies.
Tasks
The project deals with developing mathematical models for diffusion processes in different types of heterogeneous structures. Both layered structures, consisting of several thin layers with different diffusivities and more complex heterogeneous structures, such as cell layers will be studied. The models will be compared to real experiments on both artificial and real world interfaces and applied to both mucous gel and to plant leafs. The research will be carried out within Biofilms –Research center for Biointerfaces, in close collaboration with AkzoNobel AB.
The applicant should have a Master degree in chemical engineering or corresponding experience. In ranking the applicants, particular emphasis will be placed on knowledge and experience in mathematical modelling, especially regarding biomathematics. Ability to communicate in English, orally as well as in writing, is also highly valued.
Planned starting date
During the spring 2009
