Are you as well fed up with inadequate recycling of plastic waste?
Our group at the division of Energy Technology together with our partners in industry work towards laying the foundation of the next generation of chemical recycling for mixed plastic waste. If you're a team player, interested in widening your scope on chemical plastic recycling, enjoying combining theory with pilot scale experiments and are curious about the details to make it work we can offer you a Phd-student position in our lab.

Information about the division and the department
The project is part of a larger collaboration with the chemical industry in western Sweden and addresses their need for deeper knowledge on the thermochemical conversion of plastic waste. Particularly, the heterogeneity of real waste streams and the technological consequences are in the focus. The division of Energy Technology has its own pilot scale facility for pyrolysis and gasification trials and advanced analytics for product characterization which is the backbone of our research. Complementary experimental lab facilities are available to investigate specific aspects isolated.

The position will include tight interaction with scientific and industrial partners.

Major responsibilities
Doctoral studies at Chalmers is a combination of individual research, studying on courses, and teaching. The research work is carried out as part of a well-established research group, with an experienced supervisor team. Your main responsibilities will be to drive your own research as part of our joint ambition which includes to support your fellow Phd candidates in their research and to receive support from them. A Phd-position at the division of Energy Technology includes teaching in one of our courses and might include other departmental duties which in total may comprise a maximum of 20 percent of the working time. Doctoral education in Sweden leads to a licentiate degree after around two and a half years, and a full doctorate after four to five years.

Qualifications
You have a Master degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent with a relevant focus on process, chemistry, material science or energy.

Experimental experience in thermal conversion, experience with gas chromatography, FTIR or mass spectroscopy or experience with chemkin is considered a merit.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
