hela Sverige The research in Department of Economics, Umeå School of Business and Economics, Umeå University is primarily focused on Environmental and natural resource economics, Labor economics, Econometrics, and Public economics. The Department also hosts researchers in the Centre for Environmental and Resource Economics (CERE), which is a joint venture for the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Umeå University. www.cere.se. The department offers two PhD programs; economics and econometrics to which we now announce four positions as PhD student starting September 1, 2012, and for a maximum duration of four years full time.
Two positions in Economics/Econometrics,Ref nr 313-412-12
One position specifically in Climate Change Economics and Integrated Assessment Modelling (CERE), Ref nr 313-413-12
One position specifically in Energy Economics (CERE, separate announcement through the Industrial Graduate School for Research & Innovation), Ref nr 313-414-12
Eligibility requirements and assessment criteria
The qualification requirements to be admitted as a doctoral student is an exam at the advanced level, course requirements of at least 240 ECTS out of which 60 ECTS are obtained at the advanced level, and 90 ECTS in economics. For admission to the PhD program in econometrics, the applicant must also fulfil course requirements of at least 60 ECTS in statistics or mathematical statistics. A person who in some other system in the country or abroad has acquired corresponding university education has eligibility for admission.
The assessments of the applicants are based on their qualifications and their ability to benefit from the doctoral-level education they will receive.
Application
The application should include an introduction letter, a CV, copies of degree certificates, a preliminary research plan (1-2 pages) describing the proposed research area as well as a plan for how the research will be conducted, scientific writing (e.g., undergraduate thesis), contact details to at least two reference persons, and possibly other material that the applicant wishes to refer to. Applicants with an exam from a university outside of Sweden are required to take the GMAT- (or GRE) and TOEFL-tests, and have the results from the tests sent to the university. Applications belonging to any of the department's main research areas will be given priority. If you wish, there is a possibility to be a teaching assistant in our undergraduate programs.
