Dina arbetsuppgifterType of employment: Fixed-term employment, 4 years Extent: 100 % Location: Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg First day of employment: As agreed Reference number: UR 2016/236 Project title: Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for frail older people in Swedish acute care settings - a randomized controlled study Job assignments: Care given according to Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) has shown many benefits for older patients, but there is a lack of studies in Swedish hospital care of today. The overall aim of this PhD-project is to evaluate the effects of screening for frailty and CGA for frail older people in Swedish hospital settings. The study is a randomized controlled trail performed at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The pilot study and a process evaluation started first of March 2016. All patients 75 years and older, seeking acute hospital care is screened for frailty. Those being frail are randomized into two study arms: intervention or control group, total sample 150 participants. The intervention includes multidisciplinary teams consisting of physician, nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist and social worker, working according to CGA. CGA include assessment of socio-demographic background, social network, health and medical history, medications, functional status, cognitive status, nutritional status, somatic status and psychosocial status including depression, as well as treatment and planning for discharge and follow-up. Follow-ups after 1, 6 and 12 months with interview, test of functional ability and assessment of activities of daily living is part of the PhD students duties. Thus, it is desirable to be an occupational therapist and to have experience of testing of functional ability of frail elderly. Good knowledge in English is required. The PhD student will also perform qualitative interviews as part of the process evaluation. The PhD student will be part of the research group FRESH (FRail Elderly Support researcH group), which is one of the research groups within AgeCap. FRESH is multidisciplinary and has a broad expertise, representing a variety of disciplines including medical sciences, health sciences and social sciences. The PhD position comprises 4 years full-time studies and leads to a doctoral degree. The position is funded via doctoral studentship.
Utbildning och erfarenhetEligibility: To be admitted to third-cycle studies you must fulfill both the general and the specific entry requirements. The general entry requirements is fulfilled if you have: 1. completed a degree at a second-cycle level, or 2. completed at least 240 credits worth of studies of which at least 60 credits must be at a second-cycle level, or 3. acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. The specific entry requirements is fulfilled if you have completed the English B/6 course or is considered to have acquired equivalent knowledge through previous studies.
