Announced by the Department of Chemistry (www.chemistry.umu.se)
Project description
The primary aim of the PhD project is to find methods for tracing significant pollution sources to the Baltic Sea. Chemical analyses of Baltic air and sediments will be conducted, and the data will be evaluated by various multivariate modeling techniques. The aim is to identify and apportion pollution sources and to increase knowledge and understanding on spatial and temporal trends. The work is focused on dioxins and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs), but metals are included as marker parameters. The studies are part of two research programs (BalticPOPs and Ecochange), which are supported by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the national research council Formas.
