Project description
The successful candidate will work in the newly launched large charging infrastructure project called "Dreemer: Delade regionala energi-och mobilitetsförsörjningssystem för effektivt resursutnyttjande". The overall aim of the PhD-project is to analyse the potential for shared charging infrastructure between different transport modes (trucks, buses and cars) and to analyse the impact from charging on the electricity system and electric grid. Example of research questions in the project: How much and where do we need power to electrify the transport sector? How can charging infrastructure be build in an efficient way? How does the grid handle large hubs where many vehicles wants to charge at the same time? What is the value of smart charging? The project will consist of both electricity system modelling and different case studies within the county of Västra Götaland.

The PhD position on offer will join a team of senior researchers, postdocs and PhD students dedicated to research with the aim to identify and evaluate different pathways toward sustainable energy and transport systems. The PhD work will develop and apply energy systems and power system modeling to analyse how a strong ramp-up of electric vehicles can be integrated in the electricity system and the electric grid. The models have been developed within the research group at Energy Technology during long time.

The project is funded by Vinnova and Västra Götalands Regionen. The PhD-project will be closely performed in co-operation with other partners in the consortsium such as Volvo, Västrafik, Transdev, ABB, Renova, Keolis, Göteborg Energi, Göteborg Stad, Göteborg Stads Leasing AB, Framtiden, Johanneberg Science Park and Lindholmen Science Park.
