Team up with 10 fellow PhD students at Chalmers and Lund University to perform cutting-edge multi-disciplinary research in semiconductor system design! Your research on energy efficient and reconfigurable millimeter-wave CMOS transmitters will reduce CO2 impact and enable new applications ranging from wearable virtual-/extended reality (VR/XR) devices for telepresence to radars for security and environmental sensing.

Project description
In this research project you will investigate how analog/RF- and digital circuits can be jointly designed and optimizated to maximize energy efficiency and reconfigurability in communication and sensor transmitters for emerging virtual- and extended reality (VR/XR) and environmental sensing applications. All critical parts of the transmitter, from digital-to-analog conversion, frequency up-conversion- and power amplification will be analysed, modelled, and implemented with the overall objective to understand efficiency enhancement and adaptivity opportunities and bottlenecks in typical application scenarios.

You will be part of classIC (Chalmers-Lund Advanced Semiconductor System Design Center), which is a multi-disciplinary joint venture involving Chalmers and Lund University and strongly supported by leading industries. This position is hosted by the Microwave Electronics Laboratory at the department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, but will involve a close collaboration with researchers at other departments at Chalmers, Lund University and classIC member industries.

With access to state-of-the art CMOS technology, world-class labs (Kollberg Lab), and multi-disciplinary teamwork, you will be all set for an inspiring and impactful PhD project!

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies, including both coursework and research. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. In addition, the position will normally include 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties.

Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering or similar, with a strong background in electronic circuit design. Experience in the design of integrated and high-frequency circuits is meritorious.

Since communication of research results is a central part of the work, communicative skills in English (oral as well as in writing) are vital. Furthermore, it will also be expected that you can take on responsibility, take own initiatives and work independently when needed. At the same time it is important that you are good at working in teams. This is especially vital since the current project will interact closely with adjacent disciplines.
Finally, you need to be able to disseminate results and knowledge within existing and new networks. This includes academia, industry and society at large.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
