hela Sverige Linköping University advertises a position as PhD student in Technical Audiology, specializing in finite element modelling at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine.
Duties: The doctoral student will primarily be involved in a research project on a finite element model of the human skull and cochlea that can be used to predict hearing by bone conduction. This project is part of an EU project termed "Semantic Infrastructure interlinking an open source Finite Element tool and libraries with a model repository for the multi-scale Modeling of the inner-ear (SIFEM)". The aim of the project is to develop patient-specific models of the hearing organ. In the current project, the doctoral student will work with other professionals devising a 3D model of the human head and identifying parameters of structures enabling simulations of the vibration pattern. At the core of research are 3D modelling, segmentation of geometries and finite element modelling. The research is multidisciplinary but the doctoral student will partake in a project that primarily involves engineering sciences.
The doctoral student should focus principally on the scientific training. However, a doctoral student may engage, to a limited extent, in teaching, research and administration. Such work is limited to maximum 20 percent of full time.
Requirements: Employment as a doctoral student is conditional on acceptance to the scientific training programme.
Four years of relevant university education is required. The applicant should have a degree in civil-engineering but also applicants with MSc or 4 year university education in engineering or physics are eligible to apply.
Documented experience of finite element modeling is a merit. Experience of audiology, hearing science, and acoustics is also a merit. You should also be experienced using MATLAB.
Equal opportunities: LiU continues to develop as an attractive and creative work place characterized by equal opportunities, and actively promotes diversity and gender equality.
A majority of doctoral students within the department are women, which is why precedence will be given to men in cases where qualifications are deemed otherwise equivalent.
Appointment time: The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may be employed during a period not exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years' full time research training.
