The department of Industrial product development, production and design conducts education and research in areas such as product development, production development and industrial design. The department is responsible for five educational programs at Campus in Jönköping, and two programs in Nässjö and Värnamo. The department has a strong commitment to the development of research and education in Knowledge Intensive Product Development, which is a strategic area at Jönköping University.
The department of Industrial product development, production and design is looking for a doctoral student in the subject of Production systems for the production development and automation research projects "DIPPA" and "STURK" and to participate in the strategic development of the production research at the Industrial product, production and design department in close collaboration with the regional industry aiming for international competitiveness.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a doctoral student, your work will mainly be research studies and research project work focusing on production development and automation. The purpose of the "DIPPA" research project in which you will do work is through digitalization of product and production design increasing automation, in collaboration with companies. The purpose of the "STURK" research project in which you will do work is to strengthen the regional industry, mainly SMEs, especially related to automation, digitalization and emerging technologies through cluster activities.
Furthermore, the strategic development of the research within the production group is to further analyze the consequences and possibilities for installing automation - such as flexibility, sustainability, integrating the design of a product and the automation solution including the mechanical interface between the production equipment and the product.
Besides this the work also includes working with companies in the region, be involved in and build up corporate networks to the department. Other tasks, such as teaching, do not represent more than 20% of the working hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a candidate with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with focus on product development, production development, industrial production, sustainable engineering, production engineering or equivalent. You need to have skills in CAD, preferably CATIA or SolidWorks. You also need to have knowledge in mechanical engineering and theoretical experience in relevant fields.
Due to the international working environment, a good level of the English language, both written and oral, is expected. It is meritorious if you can speak and write in Swedish, at least on basic level.
The successful candidate is truly committed, creative and curious. You enjoy collaborations, are capable of concretizing visions and ideas in practically feasible working methods and methodology and has good communication skills. It is important that you have analytical and systematical abilities. Also, the ability to work independently with great responsibility and ability to finish dedicated assignments/tasks on time is important.
It is meritorious if you have experience from SMEs as well as industrial experience and if you have had thesis work done in industrial production or equivalent. Experience from teaching on University level and knowledge in production and robotics will also be a merit.
