Beskrivning av verksamheten
Location: Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Gothenburg, Lindholmen
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is strongly international, with approximately 240 employees from over 30 countries. The department is a fully integrated department with the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology as principals. The position is placed in the Software Engineering Division at the department, with the University of Gothenburg as the employer. Within the Software Engineering Division, research ranges from software architecture, requirements, process improvement and change management, human factors, model-driven software development, agile processes, to verification and validation. The department includes
additional strong groups with related fields of Computer Science and Engineering; see
http://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/cse/Pages/default.aspx
Software Engineering is a strategic area at the department and activities in the field are envisaged to grow further. To this end, the Software Engineering division was founded in 2010 by University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology in a joint venture. In 2011, the Software Centre was established in close collaboration with industrial partners, which presents excellent opportunities to conduct research with industry. The division actively collaborates with industrial partners from the automotive and telecommunications domain.

Job assignments:
The research of the advertised PhD position will be in the area of robotic systems that interoperate each other and with humans to achieve specified missions. Specifically, we will focus on robotic entities with characteristics of mobility and/or manipulability, including: a) Mobile Robotic Platforms, b) Mobile Manipulators, c) Static Manipulators.
The successful candidate will work in the context of the European Project "Achieving Complex Collaborative Missions via Decentralized Control and Coordination of Interacting Robots (Co4Robots)", Call: H2020-ICT-2016-2017 (Information and Communication Technologies Call), Topic: ICT-25-2016-2017, Type of action: RIA (Research and Innovation action).
The successful candidate will define a systematic approach for creating re-usable robot building blocks, i.e. modules with clear interfaces, semantic description, and well defined properties. Configuration mechanisms will be defined to enable (i) start-up configuration - the user will be able to customize the robot system before use according to needs of various domains and contexts, (ii) user run-time configuration and run-time self-configuration - the
user will be able to alter the robot system behavior during the cycle of operation, e.g. by assigning new tasks, and the robot system will self-reconfigure accordingly. We will make use of Model Driven Engineering (MDE), which is considered a key and core technology by the Robotics 2020 Multi-Annual Roadmap document (MAR) - http://sparcrobotics . eu/wp content/uploads/2014/05/H2020-Robotics-Multi-Annual Roadmap- ICT-2016.pdf - to achieve a separation of roles in the robotics domain while also improving compose-ability, system integration and also addressing non-functional properties. In particular, MDE will (i) enable customizability in different and specific domains then improving the usability in everyday applications, (ii) promote reusability of the different algorithms, methods, and techniques conceived in the overall project, (iii) provide the technology that is needed to manage variability and complexity both before and during the mission execution.

Eligibility
The qualifications for education on a doctoral level are: degree in advanced level, at least 240 university points, of which 60 are on an advanced level, or in an other way acquired similar knowledge. A masters degree in computer science or software engineering is a requirement for the position. Experience from study periods outside of home country, for example via Erasmus, is a merit. Various programming languages, model-driven engineering, autonoums systems/selfadaptive systems/robotic systems and good skills in software engineering is mandatory.
Experience and skills in verification and validation, software architectures, ROS, EM and product lines are meritorious. As a person you should be motivated, energetic, flexible and independent.

Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for education on a doctoral level are given in SFS 1998:80.
The selection process will be competitive. If you are interested in the position, please provide the following information:
• Application letter which clearly relates the candidate's background to the announced
position
• Detailed curriculum vitae
• Electronic copies of your postgraduate and undergraduate transcripts
