At Linköping University we embrace innovative thinking. Constantly challenging ourselves has been our strongest motivator ever since we opened our doors in 1975. We are driven by seeking answers beyond the traditional and across subject boundaries. If you are too, we would like to see you at our university. Together we can find solutions to the challenges of the day.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as

PhD student in polymer solar cells
formally based at department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Duties
The PhD project is included in the Knut och Alice Wallenberg-funded research programme "Mastering Morphology for Solution-borne Electronics", in which research groups from four Swedish universities (Karlstad University, Chalmers University of Technology, Lund University and Linköping University) collaborate. The main goal of the project is to predict and monitor the structures that are formed in thin polymer films during drying of multi-component solutions and optimize their properties for their use as functional materials in polymer electronics. To reach this goal we will develop and use methods to follow the dynamics of structure formation in-situ, to determine local film composition and structure, and to understand the underlying thermodynamic mechanisms.

Your research at LiU will mainly focus on studying the optical and electrical properties of materials synthesized in Chalmers University of Technology with spectroscopic photoluminescence, absorption and conductivity; investigating the correlation between the performance of polymer solar cells and nano-morphology of functional layers by photocurrent mapping; in-situ monitoring of the drying process by non-invasive methods; optimizing the electrical performance of polymer solar cells and transferring the knowledge from small area coating to large area roll-to-roll slot-die coating.

Your will collaborate with PhD students in Lund University, Chalmers University of Technology and Karlstad University to fulfill the goal of the project.

As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited devoted to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

The candidate should have background in Physics, Chemistry or Materials science. Training in organic electronics is preferred.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.

Starting date
