The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. PhD student in Materials Science (within the Competence Centre FunMat-II)
formally based at Nanostructured Materials at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (IFM)
Duties
FunMat-II is a Competence Centre funded by VINNOVA (the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems) in materials science and surface engineering at Linköping University with partners at Uppsala University, the research institute Swerea KIMAB, and numerous Swedish and international industry partners. At Linköping University, the Divisions of Nanostructured Materials, Thin Film Physics, and Theory and Modeling participate.
As a member of Nanostructured Materials you will conduct application inspired fundamental research on materials synthesis and materials behavior. The work is primarily experimental. This position is part of the competence center FunMat-II, which means that you will be part of a larger research team that is doing collaborative research. The team members are from Linköping university and industrial companies that are partners of the center. You will be part of one or several research projects, which are headed by a senior researcher and a steering group.
The position comprises experimental research within the field of designing new materials where lattice defects are used as something positive, especially extremely hard coatings for high temperature applications. The research includes synthesis by magnetron sputtering and characterization of defects and materials properties, of special interest is elastic properties at elevated temperature. The latter will include laser-based spectroscopy.
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.
Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies. M.Sc. or equivalent degree in, physics, materials science, or similar. Documented interest and experience in hard thin films materials is an advantage. Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.
Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.

By agreement/as soon as possible.

The salary for PhD students is based on the department's salary scale.
