Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these cutting-edge research projects and in the societal transformation that they entail. We offer a broad range of courses and study programmes to match the skills in demand. We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future.Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC) research subject addresses fundamental challenges in distributed systems and mobile networks, enabling the mobility, ubiquity, security, and interactivity of computers, data, software, and users. The pervasive computing paradigm enables technologies such as sensors, actuators, and computers to take a back seat while end users interact with them in a seamless manner without being aware of the state-of-the-art technologies involved, including cloud computing, IoT, and augmented/mixed/virtual/extended reality. Mobile computing enables continuous Internet access for computing devices (such as laptops, smartphones, and sensors) via a multitude of access networks, including 5G, with maintained service availability. Mobility is enabled by devices seamlessly connecting to access technologies that scale to support an application or service.

Subject description
Pervasive and mobile computing addresses fundamental challenges in distributed systems and mobile networks, enabling the mobility, ubiquity, security, and interactivity of computers, data, software, and users.

Project description
You will be working in the fields of cloud computing, computer networking and immersive systems to develop elastic and cost-efficient cloud-based AI pipeline to tackle climate change and support sustainability. Some of the tasks include:

• Investigate and develop cloud platform to support elastic and cost-efficient AI operations regarding climate change management.
• Investigate and develop methods to support user-centric immersive applications supporting AR/VR/XR in the context of climate change and sustainability.

Duties
As a PhD student you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. Most of your working time will be devoted to your own research studies. In addition, you can have the opportunity to try the teacher role. As a researcher, you work as a neutral party in many contexts, which provides a great opportunity to be involved in challenging development projects.

Qualifications
To be admitted to doctoral studies, the applicant must have basic eligibility and have completed a degree in engineering/master's degree in computer engineering/computer science or equivalent, completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which 60 credits at the advanced level, or in some other way within or outside the country acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.

The applicant should have good knowledge of software development and computer science, as well as good skills in oral and written communication in English. Additional knowledge in mathematics, ICT/Cloud architectures, and the Swedish language is a merit. Your previous research experience and publications will be considered a plus.
After the eligibility requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics and personal suitability.

To succeed with your doctoral studies at LTU, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. We are looking for a talented, analytical, and motivated colleague who can perform advanced research in our research group alone and in collaboration.
