LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as

PhD student in Novel neutron multilayer optics by scattering length density tailoring during growth
formally based at the Thin Film Physics division at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

Duties
This PhD student will be enrolled in the Swedish national graduate school for neutron scattering, SwedNESS and will carry out research on novel multilayer neutron optics. This involves theoretical neutron optical simulations as well experimental synthesis by magnetron sputter deposition and characterization of metallic and ceramic multilayer mirror structures. The majority of the work will be made at Linköping University, including TEM, X-ray scattering, etc.,while neutron reflectometry as well as a major part of the SwedNESS-specific courses will be carried out abroad at a variety of neutron research facilities.

The PhD student will work in close collaboration with the SwedNESS PhD project "Magnetic properties of artificial magnetic heterostructures" at Uppsala University.

As a PhD student one will primarily devote oneself to one's research project, although up to 20 percent of full time may be assigned to work with education and administration.

Qualifications
The expected qualifications of the applicants are Master of Science or equivalent in e.g., physics, technical physics, materials science, materials chemistry, materials physics, etc. where documented interests in the above mentioned duties will be favorably considered.

Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years.

Starting date
As soon as possible, by agreement.

Salary
The salary for PhD students is based on the department's salary scale.
