1 PhD student in the research education subject: microbial ecology
The role of Paenibacillus polymyxa biofilm formation in protection of nursery plantlets against Pythium root rot
Paenibacillus polymyxa biofilm formation ability is crucial within sustainable agricultural cropping systems and plays an essential role in plant growth, plant protection as well soil quality. Despite of numerous studies the mechanisms behind the interactions are poorly understood. In order to apply the potential of the microorganisms we need deeper knowledge how the microorganisms interact to plant root.
Qualifications
Applicant should have MS degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent. Applicants with competence on some of the following methods will be preferred: ? Basic laboratory skills in microbiology including biofilm culturing and spectrometry ? primer design, PCR, gene cloning and expression ? confocal microscopy, FISH ? antibody biotinylation and QD conjugation ? Western blotting, 2D gel electrophoresis Personal qualities that give merit include the ability to work independently, the ability to cooperate, and good skills in oral and written English.

A person has basic eligibility for third level education if he or she has taken a second level qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second level.
Those who met the requirements for general eligibility before July 1st, 2007, i.e. had completed a programme of higher education for at least 180 Higher education credits or the equivalent, will continue to do so until the end of 2015."
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language and an interview.
