1 PhD student in the research education subject: Food Science
Impact of nutrients on lipid metabolism in fish and other animals, gene and protein expression
We are looking for a PhD student to join our research on animal origin foods. The aim of the PhD project is to increase the knowledge in importance and impact of different nutrients on gene and enzyme expression and activities. In this project you will perform pioneering work to unravel the function and biochemistry of genes/proteins as well as study the regulation of known components in animal lipid biosynthesis. You will use both fish and other animal species as model systems. You will have the opportunity to be trained in state-of-the-art techniques in salmonid genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry as well as scientific thinking and writing.
Qualifications
Qualifications You need a degree in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology or equivalent. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and good English is a requirement. Experience in biostatistical methods is a strong advantage. Flexibility to travel is also required, as well as a driving license, as part of the research will be carried out in collaboration with the Dept of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies at SLU, Umeå.

Those who met the requirements for general eligibility before July 1st, 2007, i.e. had completed a programme of higher education for at least 180 Higher education credits or the equivalent, will continue to do so until the end of 2015."
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language and an interview.
