Dimethyl ether (DME) is a renewable fuel that can be used for vehicles and with the use of this fuel the green house gases can be reduced. The objective with this project is to investigate the catalytic reactions using DME for emission cleaning from vehicles. The systems investigated have high relevance for the industry. The projects contain both an experimental part and a modelling part. Catalysts should be prepared and characterized thoroughly and at KCK we have a broad experimental toolbox for this. Further, flow reactor experiments will be used to detect the activity and selectivity of the catalysts during different reaction conditions. Micro-calorimetry will be used to measure the heat of adsorption. The results from these experiments will be used as a base for developing detailed kinetic models for the systems. The project is funded by Swedish research council.
At KCK we work intra-disciplinary between Physics, Chemistry and Chemical engineering. There are three departments at Chalmers University of Technology involved in KCK, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Applied Surface Chemistry and Applied Physics. We work in close connection with industry and the member companies are AB Volvo, Scania CV AB, Volvo Car Corporation AB, GM Powertrain Sweden AB, Rymdbolaget och Haldor Topsøe A/S.
Description of the position
The position is limited to maximum five years and corresponds to full-time research studies during four years. In addition, teaching in the undergraduate or masters curriculi at Chalmers could be included corresponding to one year, teaching work distributed over the whole time of the position. The positions are placed at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology.
A suitable background is Master of Science (Swedish: civilingenjör) in Chemical engineering or Chemical Engineering with Physics, specifically with interest in catalysis and mathematical modelling.
