Department of Economics

At the Department of Economics, research and teaching are conducted in the subjects economics and business studies. The department has master's and bachelor programs in economics, and a PhD program. Priority areas in economics are (i) environment and natural resources and (ii) agricultural economics.

PhD in environmental economics
Description:
The environmental economics group - see https://www.slu.se/env-econ - is seeking up to two PhD students to join our research team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to study advanced courses in economics corresponding to at least 90 ECTS (three semesters), and to perform research in environmental and resource economics under the supervision of senior members of the group, culminating in a thesis after a total of 4 years' employment. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of either Professor Rob Hart on questions related to long-run macroeconomic development and sustainability, or Associate Professor Shon Ferguson on questions related to environmental policy and international trade, or Associate Professor Efi Kyriakopoulou on questions related to urban environmental challenges and network economics.

Qualifications:
Eligible candidates must have taken a second level qualification or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second level. They must have a background in economics, or another field of study relevant for the position, with a strong interest in environmental economics.

Strong applicants will demonstrate the potential for future research excellence, both through achievements hitherto (including course grades and research work performed) and through a description of their motivation and ideas for future research. Good skills in English (both written and oral) are required. Emphasis will be placed on personal skills as team player as well as ability to take initiatives and work independently.

Employment as PhD student (4 years).

To qualify for third-cycle (Doctoral) courses and study programmes, you must have a second-cycle (Master's) qualification. Alternatively, you must have conducted a minimum of four years of full-time study, of which a minimum of one year at second-cycle level.

Applicants will be selected based on their written application and CV, degree project, copies of their degree certificate and transcript of records from previous first and second-cycle studies at a university or higher education institution, two personal references, and knowledge of English.
